New Program

The International Education Center is a new adult learning model that incorporates English language acquisition, education and employment programs within a single accredited academic institution. Designed for international adults, IEC offers the programs essential for American career development and a global labor resource for the metropolitan business community.

Funding

The International Education Center is funded by the United States government, the Minnesota Department of Education, community foundations, community organizations and individual donors. The investment by these organizations and individuals allows us to offer most courses – TUITION FREE. We ask only that students honor these financial investments by investing adequate time and effort to reach personal goals.

Community Benefit

Minnesota is already experiencing a negative population growth factor and will experience a serious labor force reduction during the next 15 years as the baby boomers age out. A declining labor force translates into a decline in economic growth. The State of Minnesota’s Demographer suggests “international migration” as a viable solution to this very real and impending challenge.

Short Term Benefit - A labor force that is multi-lingual and prepared to meet the needs of employers operating in a global market.

Long Term Benefit - A center that will attract international migration to the Twin Cities to supplement a declining labor force. To retain global corporate headquarters, the Twin Cities must develop principal educational institutions to serve and attract qualified international employees.

Student Benefit

The International Education Center focuses on the challenges of International students.

  • English Language: English is the language of the United States and international students must be literate and fluent in English. The English language is the foundation for all IEC programs. Being bi-lingual or multi-lingual is an asset that IEC students will bring to the global marketplace.
  • Education: Earn what you Learn is the new phrase prevalent in American society. As the US evolves into “knowledge based” industries all IEC students will need the educational tools to realize their career goals. IEC provides the educational development tools for international students to attain post secondary and career goals.
  • Employment: The ultimate goal is productive employment. The IEC program offers career exploration and employment placement for international students.

The benefit to the students is a comprehensive program that addresses their primary challenges to succeed in a society that is moving from manufacturing industries to knowledge-based industries.
